Understanding Your Speed Test Results
Your speed test history lets you track connection performance over time and identify patterns in your internet quality. Here is how to interpret the key metrics:
- Download Speed (Mbps): How fast data comes to your device. Higher is better for streaming and browsing.
- Upload Speed (Mbps): How fast data leaves your device. Important for video calls and uploading files.
- Ping (ms): Round-trip latency. Under 20ms is excellent, 20–50ms is good, 50–100ms is fair, over 100ms may cause issues.
- Jitter (ms): Variation in ping over multiple measurements. Low jitter means consistent connection quality.
Why Results Change Over Time
Your internet speed can vary significantly based on time of day, number of connected devices, and your ISP's network load. Comparing multiple tests gives you a more accurate picture of your average connection quality. If you consistently see speeds much lower than your plan promises, document the results and contact your ISP.
