How internet reaches Pakistani homes
Fixed-line connections are mostly DSL over telephone lines and, increasingly, fibre to the home, alongside cable and fixed-wireless services in some areas. Many people rely on 4G mobile data as their main connection.
International traffic leaves the country over submarine cables landing near Karachi and over land links. When a submarine cable is cut or under repair, international sites and apps can slow down for users of affected ISPs while local services keep working. Evening peak hours are when congestion is most common. Testing at different times shows whether you're affected (why internet slows at night).
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) regulates ISPs and mobile operators. If your provider doesn't resolve a problem, escalating to the PTA is the next step. Your saved test history is useful evidence.
