How to log in to your router
Connect to your router, type its IP address (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) into the browser's address bar and sign in with the username and password printed on the router's label. If you don't know the address, it's the "default gateway" in your device's network settings.
- Connect by Wi-Fi or cable to the router you want to manage.
- Find its address with the router IP finder steps, or try the common addresses above.
- Enter the address with
http://in the address bar. - Log in with the details on the label (or the ones you set).
Common router addresses

Some brands also accept a web address in place of the IP, printed on the label or in the manual. Examples include tplinkwifi.net (TP-Link), routerlogin.net (Netgear) and router.asus.com (ASUS). These only work while you're connected to that router.
Username and password
Check the label on the bottom or back of the router first. It usually shows the admin login and often the Wi-Fi password too. Many recent routers and ISP-supplied units have a password unique to each device.
We don't publish "default password" lists. They vary by model and firmware, go out of date and are often wrong. If the password was changed and nobody knows it, a factory reset (below) restores the label's details.
Note that the router admin password and the Wi-Fi password are different. The admin password protects the settings; the Wi-Fi password lets devices join.
Login problems and fixes

Factory reset: last resort
With the router powered on, press and hold the recessed Reset button with a pin for about 10–30 seconds (the manual gives the exact time) until the lights flash. After it restarts, the label's login and Wi-Fi details work again.
Secure your router in five minutes
- Change the admin password from the label's default to a unique one.
- Use WPA2 or WPA3 Wi-Fi security with a long passphrase. Avoid WEP and "open".
- Turn off WPS, the push-button/PIN pairing feature, if you don't use it.
- Turn off remote management (admin access from the internet) unless you need it.
- Update the firmware from the router's admin page or app, and replace routers that no longer get updates.
- Check connected devices for anything you don't recognise. The MAC address lookup identifies the manufacturer.
Questions
What is my router's IP address?
It's the default gateway shown in your device's network settings. On Windows run ipconfig; on iPhone tap the (i) next to your Wi-Fi network. 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 are the most common.
Can I log in to my router from my phone?
Yes. Connect the phone to the router's Wi-Fi, open the browser and enter the router address. Many brands also have an app.
How do I change my Wi-Fi password?
Log in to the router, open the Wireless (or Wi-Fi) security settings, change the password (called passphrase or pre-shared key), and save. Every device will need the new password.
Can someone log in to my router from the internet?
Not normally: the admin page is only reachable from your own network unless remote management is enabled. Keep it off and use a strong admin password.
